Culture Revived

Hi all ive just finished reviving a old camphour laurel tree into a 11 ft dugout canoe ,over the last 5 mths i have worked with a group of 12 boys n 2 men to bring this piece of Djungutti culture to life ,sadly in the 4th week of building this canoe we lost one of our little paddlers his name was Charlie age 13 yrs  ( my oldest sisters g/son ) so to honor charlie the boys n myself decicided to call the traditional dugout Charlie , lots of tears and hard work of chippin and cuttin away at this old tree to finally have the finished traditional canoe ,the boys learnt to respect the tree and to follow the what there eyes could see ,, so myself and Charlie went to Canberra to support Mr Rudd as the votes were being done i was paddling Charlie across Lake Burleigh Griffin it was a great privilage to do so for there has never been a Traditional Canoe paddled across the lake before  ,This was to be the start of a 21 day journey for me and Charlie to travel around Australia to show that culture is still alive inside us all ,,I will Keep Updates of my Journey on my website for all to see and watch  Barllu Gurri
