From Australia i send my hopes and prayers to the Old man ,the Great man Mr Nelson Mandela and his Family he is a fighter in life and a believer of souls like his smile he seems to glow and in his heart we all shall heal for the equal rights for all mankind.Some time back the year 2004 to be excact my future appeared for me to understand for the Grandfather to be was me in that year A Touch of Mandela got to find me so as i see in the Charcoal he draws he talked about the future with his hands and the childrens hands as being one ,so to have the honor to have 6 of Mr Mandelas drawings to create my art alongside this great man ,my future i put on there with my Granddaughters footprints which we are of aboriginal decent .How appropriate for my 1st son you see to give a little Queen for my tribe will be ,Family must be important you see how the Mandela Family will be just like the stars up above from the Morning Star i give you love ,hope and understanding when times are sad we are left standing so as culture has taught me to look at the new life to carry us through Grandchildren of ours should become as one and across this world hands should clench aswell recall for reconciliation ,see this great man he believed in this in youth so ,Struggle ,Imprisonment,Freedom,Unity,Future Motivation is all about what he believed and fort for .So here is a reminder how my hands became upon this Great mans drawings ,To the Family John Gurri Kelly sends wishes from sleep time ,happy time ,morning time cause that is when we see the light the sun that gives us strength So from the land downunder our prayers are with you so for bye we say Barllu .Barllu means all be well

Gooday to all you people that may get to come and have a look over GURRIART well I have been in sorry mode for the last 3 years and its all over now culture way i stayed time out .
NOW new culture new art new spiritual stories you will feel ,fresh art will be added as i put my surrealism on canvas and add them to my website ,,old stories being brought to life for my children so they can pass on the stories and the safety that has kept them free as the mystisim comes alive ,now i see my grandchildren looking at me and knowing that there my childrens children poppa they say so art now new surrealismns in the way of art now painting that is my hands will have to stay on the canvas so i get to see on that day …. 2 times poppa they say ….. my grandchildrens children culture passes on freely not forcefully

The Eclipse

In a long time all eyes have looked up to see the

changing of day to night it has mystified all

Grandfathers of all cultures .

In my culture my life my story The Eclipse

put my hands in fear to the sky not knowing

why this night and day plays rennaisance

as in coming together .

This piece of Art was a joy in the way that it

kept my Dreamtime story haha little Grandfather

my Grandfather would say their will be day and night

on the same day ,so my hands are part of this piece of art.

So my grandchildren i hope i will save peace on earth will

come some day.

Diamonds of the Dunghutti Exhibition

The Washhouse Gallery starts 2010 with the welcome return of John Gurri Kelly. His exhibition “Diamonds of the Dunghutti” opens on Tuesday, 2 February and runs until Sunday 21 February. There will be an opening event on Thursday, 4 February. John will be present in the gallery for much of the exhibition to talk about his work, his life, and to tell his many stories.
John Gurri Kelly is the artist behind the artwork in the Deadly Awards. He is the artist who launched NTV (National Indigenous Television). His artwork “Bunyip” hangs in the Waratah Room in Parliament House, Sydney, and his painting “Baralburia”, which depicts the first Aboriginal site recorded, has been acquired by the National Parks and Wildlife. Self taught, Gurri has developed his own language of art to tell his stories and his culture. Listening to him talk of his paintings makes his culture jump to life, and he connects the ancient past with the vibrant present in front of you. His connection with the youngest generation is a delight to watch, as he entertains and educates with infinite love and patience.

John “Gurri“ Kelly is an Aboriginal Australian artist who’s art depicts stories from his home and people - the Dunghutti Nation, Kempsey, on the mid north coast of NSW. With every brush stroke, John Kelly imparts his own special brand of cultural knowledge. When Gurri talks, you instantly know that art and culture are two things he feels very passionately about. In fact, to Gurri they are as one. Through his art, Gurri expresses his passion and love for his culture and traditions in a way that has brought him personal satisfaction as well as success and recognition.
“I started painting around ten years ago. My mother was a painter, and my father was a very cultural man. I listened to the old people and gained some of their knowledge in the way of symbols and the way of the land. My father told me to paint what was in my mind, which is why I never draw anything beforehand. I visualise it, and then I approach the canvas and just attack it. Art is a form of expression that is captured from inside. You feel good about it. We have the ability to paint, carve, weave and dance to tell the stories of our families and community.
I carry on the beliefs of my father that culture is the way of tomorrow, by passing it onto my sons and daughters and my grandchildren, hoping that it is a dreamtime tomorrow not a nightmare tomorrow…”
